11:11 | Between Realms, 2024
The creation of the rotating sculpture 11:11 | Between Realms reflects a journey of merging the physical and metaphysical, guided by the natural interplay of materials. As the form emerged, spiraling elements began to take shape, their curves and twists reminiscent of the cosmic serpent and the double-helix structure of DNA. The materials seemed to self-organize, allowing the glass to partially form on its own, with controlled interference.
The interplay of light, shadow, and movement added depth, with smoke-like shadows emphasizing the transient nature of change.
Rooted in the Five Elements (五行)—metal (金), wood (木), fire (火), earth (土), and water (水)—the work reflects the cycle of life. Metal provides stability, while wood forms a flexible frame. When molten glass meets wood, fire ignites, generating ash that transforms into earth, leaving its imprint on the glass. Symbolizing water, glass captures the cycle’s fluidity, solidifying into a tangible form that embodies creation, destruction, and renewal. This harmonious interplay reveals the interconnected dance of the Five Elements in a unified process of transformation.
